KRISTEN WELCH AND ST. NICK
4-H PUPPY RAISER
We are very proud of our 4-H
participants in the 4 Paws FAITH (FourPaws Assistants In Training to
Help) Program! These kids not only raise a puppy for us but also compete
with their dogs at the city, county, and state levels during the annual
fair season. Kristen was matched with St. nick when he was 7 weeks old.
St. Nick, a mix breed dog was born at Franklin Pre-Release Correctional
Facility in our Mission Pawsible Rover Rehab Program, so I guess you
could say he has been a 4 Paws service dog in training from the moment
he was born! St. Nick and Kristen took a first place win at the Athens
County Fair in Sub-Novice B and a 2nd place in the Assistance Dog class.
We are proud of both Kristen and St. Nick.

KADO
SEARCH AND
RESCUE
2006
When we rescued Kado I
had hopes he would overcome his shyness and do great things. Thought
that would not be as a service dog for a disabled child, Kado has met
and exceeded any dreams we here at 4 Paws had for him! Kado is one of
our Hero's.
His family sent us
this......
July 4th weekend
2005, we brought a very timid Kado into our home.
He started his
training in Puppy Preschool, went on to Obedience, achieved his CGC,
and then Therapy Certification.
He still had a fear
of people, but loved the other dogs. We started him in Tracking Field
and Woods and he was off and running! We found something he enjoyed.
He took a Tracking
City class next, and by that time we knew we would try him
at Search and Rescue. We enrolled him in an Agility class for
self-confidence and he really surprised everyone.
Two weeks ago, he
graduated Search and Rescue in Medina County.
He has come a long
way and still has a long way to go.
In the spring, he
will be in Water Rescue.
He has required
extra patience and love in his teaching and has come further than we
ever expected. Positive
Reinforcement has played a giant part in his achievements.
He is
a member of Gold Star Service Dog Organization (www.goldstardogtraining.org/GSSDO)

This year a new 4H foster Home started with 4 Paws.
Andrea Mitchell fostered Star for at least a year and while Star was
with her they had many wonderful moments of success! Andrea and Star took the
American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test and as a
result Star was awarded her CGC certificate. In Hancock County they started their string of
winning scores with the Hancock County Dog Show Fun Match where they
received a 1st Place with a perfect score in the Assistance Dog Class
and a 3rd place in the Intermediate Showmanship Class. At the Hancock County Fair
4-H Dog Show they also took 1st place in the Assistance Dog Class with
another perfect score and a 4th place in the Intermediate Showmanship
Class. At the Hancock County
Canine Department they were awarded the 2005 High Point Award and took
1st place and "A" 4-H Assistance Dog Project.
As if all of this success
wasn't enough, Andrea and Star headed for the Ohio State Fair. At this
fair they received the 2005 State Championship Title. this was Star's
first Assistance Dog Title and Andrea's 2nd Championship Title. They
also took a 2nd place for their participation on the Drill Team and a
7th Place on the Assistance Dog Poster. While Andrea had Star they
went out of their way to participate in their community while at the
same time preparing Star for her most important title as a Certified
Service Dog. They attended many community events raising money for
various charities. In addition they were featured on the kids show
"Zoom" and Andrea prepared Star for her future job in
Hearing Ear work. Star has now returned to 4 Paws and will be placed
in 2006 with a young man named Rick in a duel responsibility placement
as a Service Dog trained in both Hearing Ear and Mobility Assistance. Andrea has taken her new
challenge home and given her the name Bailey. We are confidant that
they too will shine in their community bringing pride and admiration
from all of us here at 4 Paws For Ability as they do.
