PINK GIRLZ, INC.

                                      WARREN CORRECTIONAL CENTER

Warren Correctional Center, a men's prison located in Lebanon, Ohio, is home to the first 4 Paws Prison Program. 4 Paws placed their first dog at WCI in 1999. Over the past eight years we are proud to say we have grown to an average of 20 dogs in this facility at any given time. I, (Gracie), have been to the facility and if one would take a close up shot, it would look very much like a college campus. Panning out though, the bars and the barb wire surrounding the facility would come into view at this rurally located facility. In fact, on my trip to WCI, I peeked out the window just as we arrived to see a cow grazing in the field out front. At WCI each dog placed has two inmates who share a cell with the dog. These cellmates are responsible for their 4 Paws friend throughout the day and the dogs stay in the cells with the inmates at night. Throughout the course of the day the inmates work with our friends staying there and depending on the inmate's skill as a trainer, the dogs learn anything from basic obedience and "cell" manners to advanced obedience and service dog skills! Some of the inmates involved have been in the program from day one and have developed great skill and ability in training the dogs. The dogs in our program here at 4 Paws take turns in the prison. They do this so that no dog is at the 4 Paws facility for more than a few months at a time. This allows for the dogs to have some quality one on one and individualized training while in the prison and work in public and with our wonderful trainers while they are at 4 Paws. Of course each dog placed has spent their last few months at 4 Paws working with one of our professional trainers to prepare for their child.

DUSTY

FLIK
This baby flew in from Arkansas. A family there met one of our families (Jeremiah and his Autism Assistance Dog Charlie) and thought we could use this sweet pup!

Hi, my name is Dusty.  I’m a very active Yellow Lab.  I adore all the people I meet and love to run and play with my red kong ball.  When I’m not playing, I work hard on my commands and I’m always trying to learn new ones.  I know sit, down, lap, nuzzle as well as a few others.  I can also do some tricks like:  shake, high-five, bang, sleep, and my favorite is giving kisses.  Well, it’s time for to go learn and play so, I’ll say bye for now. Dusty    Currently being taken of by Handlers at LCC   02 Nov 2007

Flik and his sister Atta came to us from the Trenton Animal Friends. They had 4 sisters and brothers and a very cute Mom who were already scheduled to be released to rescue where they would find pet homes but we felt these two could have a mission in life as service dogs so we brought them to 4 Paws. Flik and Atta are Beagle x Australian Cattle Dog mix puppies who are 6 weeks old. Flik is a boy and Atta is a girl and they are named after the main characters in the Disney Movie, It's a Bugs Life. They are the two Ants, Flik the inventor and Atta the princess. Their birthday is 8-29-2007.

They are working so hard to be the best service dogs ever. They will be the first purebred Boxers to graduate from 4 Paws but we hear :"tail" this breed is used by other service dog agencies and they do well. I guess they will need a home where it is warm. I mean look at them, they have almost no hair. I offered them my faux fur coat but it would not fit. Okay, so I knew it would not fit but it looked good to make that kind gesture! Hmm maybe I will offer my diamond necklace too! That would really make me look good!
